BROWN TO FACE CRIMINAL CHARGES STEMMING FROM ‘ALTERCATION’
Chris Brown is in the news again due to what is being described by media reports as an “altercation” with someone who was allegedly trying to take a photograph of him. According to an ABC News.com report, the much maligned R&B singer reportedly punched a man in the face outside of the hotel Brown was staying at in Washington, D.C.
Brown and his bodyguard were summarily arrested and charged with felony assault. This is the latest brush with the law Brown has had this year. He reportedly was involved in a hit-and-run accident in July that was later resolved. Brown reportedly is still on probation for his 2009 guilty plea for domestic assault stemming from a fight with his then girlfriend, Rihanna.
Brown was arraigned yesterday and after further details were revealed about the event, the charges were reduced to misdemeanor assault. Brown’s situation exemplifies the need for experienced legal counsel for a person who has been charged with a crime, regardless of whether they have a prior criminal history. A seasoned lawyer can investigate all the facts in the case, and craft legal arguments that can help mean the difference between a conviction and freedom. An experienced lawyer can also provide the counsel needed for a criminal defendant to make informed decisions about their case.
It remains to be seen whether a settlement will be reached with prosecutors, or if the charges will be dropped after further investigation. It will also be interesting to see if the new case affects his probation status in California.
